RockSnap - Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy — RockSnap
Effective Date: 1.09.2026
Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how RockSnap (the "App") handles information when you use it.
1. Information We Access and Why
- Camera and Photos: The App uses your camera, or a photo you choose from your gallery, to identify rocks and minerals. When you scan, the photo is sent to Google's Gemini API (a service of Google LLC) solely to generate the identification. We do not store your photos on our own servers. Google processes this data under its own terms: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms and https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Location (optional): If you grant location permission, the App uses your approximate location to record where you found a specimen in your collection and to show distances on the map. Location data is stored only on your device. To convert coordinates into a place name, the App uses your device's built-in geocoding service (provided by Google on most Android devices). You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; the App will still work.
- Maps: The collection map uses map tiles from OpenStreetMap. To display the map, your device connects to OpenStreetMap tile servers, which receive your IP address and the map area being viewed. See https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
- Local Storage: Your scan history, collection, photos you add, notes, and settings are stored locally on your device. We do not upload or back up this data to our servers.
- Internet Access: Used to send photos for identification, to obtain configuration needed to access the identification service, to load map tiles, and to process purchases.
2. In-App Purchases and Billing
The App offers premium subscriptions.
- Payment Processing: All transactions are handled by Google Play Billing. We do not collect or store your payment card numbers, bank details, or billing address.
- Transaction Data: Google Play provides us with purchase and subscription status (for example, order IDs and timestamps) so we can grant access to premium features.
- Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
3. Data Protection and Your Rights
- No Account, No Personal Profile: The App does not require an account and we do not collect your name, email address, or phone number.
- No Advertising: The App does not display ads and does not use advertising identifiers.
- No Selling of Data: We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
- GDPR / RODO: If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data and to object to its processing. Because your data is stored on your device, you can delete it at any time by clearing your scan history in the App, removing items from your collection, clearing the App's data, or uninstalling the App.
- Children: The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
4. Security
Your collection and history are stored locally on your device. Data sent for identification and map loading is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the App or legal requirements. The latest version will always be available at this link and in the Google Play Store listing.
